De Europese vakbonden bundelen de krachten om in actie te komen tegen het angstklimaat dat heerst onder het personeel van Ryanair, de Ierse low cost luchtvaartmaatschappij die naar verluidt bekend staat om haar vijandigheid tegenover alles wat met syndicale organisaties te maken heeft. Verschillende acties zijn al op touw gezet. Sinds enkele maanden verzamelt de internationale vervoersbond ITF de klachten van werknemers van Ryanair in de zeventien Europese landen waar de maatschappij gevestigd is. "De werknemers hebben vaak de indruk dat ze te veel moeten werken", zegt Ingo Marowsky, nationaal secretaris van de luchtvaarttak van ITF. "Andere klachten gaan over een tekort aan vakantiedagen of over het feit dat ze moeten betalen voor hun uniform." Omdat de klachten vaak anoniem gebeuren wegens het ‘vijandelijke klimaat’ heeft ITF de website Ryan-be-fair opgericht, waarop werknemers alles kwijt kunnen "zonder open en bloot met een vakbond in contact te moeten omen".De Britse vakbond voor lijnpiloten Balpa gaat de piloten van Ryanair consulteren over de oprichting van een vakbond binnen de maatschappij. Daarvoor moet de helft van het personeel zich voor die plannen uitspreken. "De directie van Ryanair weigert ons momenteel te ontvangen", zegt een woordvoerder van Balpa. Ook in Zweden wordt actie ondernomen tegen Ryanair. Daar werden woensdag verschillende betogingen georganiseerd aan Zweedse luchthavens. De vakbond HTF vraagt dat de werknemers van Ryanair dezelfde sociale behandeling zouden krijgen als Zweedse werknemers. Ryanair omzeilt dit door het personeel in Ierland te registreren, klinkt het.
